The potentiality of the 532 nm Nd:YAG lidar at Camagüey Lidar Station (CLS; 21° 24' N, 77° 51' W), in the determination of the temperature and density in the middle stratosphere is analysed. The study is carried out in Camagüey starting from the lidar aerosol measurements. For it the monochromatic method was applied to a selection of observation little affected by the presence of aerosols cloud associated with the Mt. Pinatubo eruption in 1991 (1994 - 1997 period). As conclusion was established that in order to estimate the values of the mentioned variables with an appropiate accuracy, it is necessary to carry out as methodological as technological improvements. In the methodological field is pointed out that the condition of simple molecular backscattering at yhe 30 km height is not fullness satisfied in the stratospheric conditions. Therefore the inferior integration level could be a height superior to the usually employee. The necessity of much closes to the place ant time of the lidar measurement data for comparison. relative to the technological aspect was determined that, the fundamental causes of very bad calculation of the area of the receiving mirror.
