Ongoing stratospheric aerosol data assimilation as well as parameterizations for climate modeling requires integrating information from several sources. Among those sources lidar and satellite measurements play a leading role. Quantitative and qualitative criteria for the agreement between both instruments measurements are necessary for such purposes. Up to the present very few comparisons have been conducted. New perspectives have recently appeared for comparisons with the LITE mission measurements and the future CALIPSO. All the former aspects will be discussed as well as the several coincidence criteria in use and the difficulties associated.
