Lidar measurements have played an important role in the study of the stratospheric aerosols layer. At the end of the seventies and the early eighties together with dustsondes and in situ aircraft measurements, lidars were the few instruments capable to provide information about the vertical profiles of the stratospheric aerosols. Although the advent of instruments onboard satellites provide a global coverage, lidars still play a relevant role in this new era. Inversion solutions of the lidar measurements as well as the corresponding error will be discussed.
